Bling

I've never thought of myself as a 'bling' person. Having said that, long before I even thought about working with glass, I had a precious collection of lovely sparkly fused glass pendants. Strange then that it took me so long to start experimenting with making my own pendants.

A selection of my pendants

I am still experimenting - the things I know I like so far are - not square. Why are nearly all fused glass pendants square? I love that organic feel when the glass looks more like a sparkly pebble than a square cut piece of glass. I like simple geometric designs, or even no design at all, just a beautiful piece of glass fired into a lovely shape.

I've enjoyed the reactions of people at the fairs and selling events I have taken the pendants to; it has been interesting to talk to customers and find out what they like, and what they dislike. It has dawned on me that some people (most people!) are not as tall as I am and so do not want to wear the large statement pendants that I prefer - funny how it takes a little while to discover something so obvious!

So I am continuing to experiment, producing my little pieces of bling, loving the fact that no two are ever quite the same. The pendants are incredibly hard to photograph well so I mainly make them for the face-to-face selling events I attend (see here for a list of those). But I keep trying, and when I get reasonable images the pendants appear in my Folksy shop, for a time, until they come with me to my next event (after which they may be back, but then again, they may not).
